Saltford Brass Mill is situated on the River Avon at Saltford and a group of Horfield Family members plus family and friends were given a tour by two very knowledgeable volunteer guides on the evening of Wednesday June 13th.

The Brass Mill dates from the 1720s and is listed as Grade II and is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument. There was a watermill on the site at the time of the Domesday Book and it is the last surviving mill of over 30 mills which were once on this stretch of the Avon.  The mill ceased production in 1924 and in 1995 was restored and is now supported by a group of volunteers in conjunction with English Heritage and the owners North East Somerset Council.

If you didn’t manage to join us on Wednesday evening the mill is open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from May to October 11:00 am to 3:00 pm – it is well worth a visit.
